In home day care we are paying 200 a week for our 18 month old. In Gaithersburg, my wife and I pay what works out to ~$70/day 4 days a week for our 8 month old to go to a DOE accredited day care center.
We’re trying to find estimates for kids < 5 years old, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week? There are also options such as Monday Morning Moms which guarantee backup care if/when your care provider is closed.
We pay 1600 / month for a full day preschool for a 3 year old. 9 month old, in-home daycare for $300 a week. In 2002 I paid her $120 a week to babysit my sons ages 2 and 5 from 4 pm-12:30 am. We’re planning on putting her in daycare in a few months and our best quote is $440/week. There are other options for preschool which can be lots cheaper especially if you don’t need full day. Was paying $175 a week per child aged 2 at a licensed home daycare in Germantown in 2009. Start with the MD office of child care website: found our current in-home daycare provider on there. They also charged more for infants and the rate was weekly no matter how much time the child spent there. She started there just before her 2nd birthday, and the price has dropped a few times as she’s gotten older. I’m really looking forward to the day when she’s in kindergarten and my stepson goes to public school for high school. Unfortunately, I think our rates are typical around here.
But I think the $15/hr is good starting point. Interviewing providers throughout the Bethesda/Rockville area, I was getting rates from $270-$400 for an 18-mo old.
